DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL SCIENCE EDUCATION & HUMANITIES

Social studies is one of the core subject in the school curriculum and plays a vital role in developing social wisdom among the individuals. It includes issues relating to physical and cultural components of man's environment and aims at producing enlightened citizens required of a democratic society. In this context the Department of Social Sciences Education & Humanities extends its support in strengthening social studies education in school system

Functions of the Department

The major functions of the department are as follows:
1.Refining and reframing the environmental studies curriculum for primary level and social studies curriculum for Upper primary and secondary school level.
2.Providing training to the social studies teachers and teacher educators to update their knowledge and improve their professional skills.
3.Undertaking research in the areas of Social Science Education on the issues relating to social studies teachers.
4 .Developing self learning materials on different concepts and new areas included in the social studies curriculum for the use of social studies teachers and teacher educators.
5.Developing workbooks and question banks relating to Social Studies for the use of Students .
6.Organising Social Studies clubs for the professional development of social studies teachers.

1	Preparation of Text Books “Department of Curriculum and Text Books” Prepared  curriculum (syllabus) for class I to V (part of Social Studies as Environmental Science) and Class VI to X Social Studies	2008-09
2	Some of units are prepared under the Department of Curriculum and Text Books for class VI, Social Studies (Geography, History, Civics and Economics) in the year 2008-09	May-june 09
3	Department of Social Studies conducted a workshop to study the prepared textual material and taken suggestions for improvement and finalization.	July-09
4	Department of Social Studies organized a work shop to insert some of the new topics 1.             Right to Information Act 2.             Human Rights Education	August-09
5	DTP work, insertion of pictures/maps and proof reading in Telugu Medium is currently in progress	Sept,oct-09
6	Translation into other medias ( English, Tamil, Kannada, Oriya, Marathi, Hindi and Urdu) will be taken from October-2009 on wards.	Nov,dec-09
7	Planning of CCRT programmes to depute the participants in their  guidelines Selection of Districts / Candidates from teachers and teacher educators as per the norms	April09-march2010
