Department Of Biological Science Education

Introduction

       The department of Bio. Science plays a key role in the state by conducting trainings, material development, research & evaluation.

The department is meant for extending resource support to different institutions like IASEs / CTEs / DIETs and Schools. The department has got pivotal role in propagating scientific values, scientific attitudes and scientific temper particularly among the teachers and students and the community at large.

The department co-ordinates with other agencies working in the field of Bio. Science. As a part of the SCERT, the department of Bio. Science acts as a main academic advisory body in Bio Science through its functions like revision of syllabus, framing of curriculum and evaluation.


Aims and objectives:

• To organize in-service training for Biological Science teachers to enrich the subject.
• To organize trainings for Biological Science teachers in doing lab experiments.
• To provide ideas and information to keep the teachers abreast of the latest developments in the field of Biological Science.
• To under take studies, investigations and surveys relating to Biological Science matters on the appraisal of Educational Programmes.
• To undertake publication of modules, enrichment material, lab manual.
• To undertake evaluation and research study and to find out the effectiveness of education programme in the State.

Functions of the Biological Science department

Training programmes for Secondary School teacers

• To provide teachers of Secondary Schools with the latest and advanced information in the content and methodology of Science.
• To equip the teachers with skills involved in conducting experiments / activities.
• To develop in Biological Science teacher learning modules like manual of experiments, kits etc.

Research studies

• Conducting research studies for effective implementation of training programmes.
• Evaluation of High School Biological Science Laboratories and Biological Science equipment.
• Comparative study of A.P. School syllabus (Biology) with other states syllabus.
• Analysis of new textbooks.

Resource support

• Extending Resource support to the IASEs, CTEs, DIETs, Open School Society.
• Coordinating with various agencies in the field of Biological Science.

Publications

• Developing of Biological Science textbooks.
• Book of projects / seminar papers.

 Development of General Science for classes VI, VII, VIII, IX & X.

• Writing of General Science textbooks in accordance with National Curriculum Framework 2005.
• Writing of Biological Science textbooks in accordance with National Curriculum Framework 2005.
